I have been hairdressing for 40 years and have had the salon for 36 of those!
I didn’t want to be a hairdresser! I hated school and there was a scheme where you could have a school day off and do work experience, so I said to my mum “Get me a job, I don’t care what!” she came back with a Friday job in the salon she went to in Lymington!
It was a shock at first as they were all French but after that first day I knew it was something I wanted to do and I decided I wanted my own salon by the time I was 21 and I managed it with a few months to spare.
I love everything about the job, I hold the Wella Master Colour Award along with the Redken Colour Expert Award, these are equivalent to a degree.
I am not on the salon floor so much now, I don’t need to be with the team I have behind me, I now concentrate more on the behind the scenes side of the salon but I do like to drop in unexpected, it keeps them all on their toes!
My other passion is dogs!
I have been owned by Bearded Collies for nearly 40 years, I show them, judge them and have compiled four books on them. I own the youngest UK Champion we have ever had in the breed and this year I have top bitch and top puppy in the breed. I have also recently returned from judging the American Specialty in Boston USA and I am a member of the Kennel Club.
